Fruit virus diseases investigations, especially on Plum pox virus detection and strain characterization
The AgroBio Institute (ABI), Sofia is a basic research unit of the National Center for Agrarian Science (NCAS), founded by the Regulations of NCAS to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. ABI is involved in fruit virus diseases investigations in the country, especially on Plum pox virus detection and strain characterization, as well as PPV resistance plum breeding programme. AgroBioInstitute has been selected as a Center of Excellence within the FP5 Program of EC. As such an institution its scope of responsibilities included the co-ordination of scientific investigation and training in the field of plant biotechnology in Bulgaria and in the Balkan region.

Material resourcesThe advanced facilities of ABI are well equipped laboratories, phytostats and acclimatization chamber, isotop lab etc. Greenhouses together with field experimental plots situated nearby Sofia are in construction.
