Fruit Growing Institute - Bulgaria
The Fruit Growing Institute (FGI), Plovdiv is basic unit of the National Center for Agrarian Science (NCAS), founded by the Regulations of NCAS to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The institute is involved in fruit virus diseases investigations in the country, especially on Plum pox virus detection and strain characterization, as well as PPV resistance of genetic resources and plum breeding programme.

Material resourcesFGI has facilities for plum, peach, cherry and apricot breeding programmes, experimental orchards such as Virology Lab (PCR machine, ELISA equipment), and greenhouse for biological studies of PPV isolates, including inoculation of herbaceous and woody indicator plants.
